This series began as a documentary project for my Graduate studies to give a look inside of the local mining industry in a working limestone quarry. Normally operations such as these are well guarded because of the dangerous nature of their work and the tight regulations imposed by MSHA (Mining Safety Health Administration). Over the months of working closely with the workers, I found that each of them shared a special connection to each other and the earth. Ever so slowly I came to appreciate and understand the special connection and deep passion that these workers share for their chosen profession. While initially this body of work began as a way to understand the industry as a whole, it quickly evolved as I found myself gaining a greater appreciation for the people who mine the cold stone of the earth.
